I have loved books since my earliest memory. Even before I could read, my little toddler self would sit turning pages and pretending to read. (My favorite book at that time was “The Little Red Hen.” I think this gives some insight into my character.)
I grew up in a large family with no television, plenty of books, and a big backyard where I “played pretend” with my brothers. As an introverted adolescent, I counted many fictional characters among my friends, and many dead authors among my mentors. I wrote my first novella (Abigail) in my teens, and learned many lessons having it published by a small publishing company, which has since gone bankrupt. Knowing what I now know, I would classify them as a “vanity press.”
Like most writers, I have many stories currently brewing in my brain. I recently finished writing a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, which is now available in both eBook and paperback formats.
The world is full of writers.
Some are skilled, some are not.
Some write because they enjoy it. Some write because their hubris demands it, imagining their ideas are new and brilliant and must be shared. (But there is nothing new under the sun.)
Others write because they want to tell what truth they know in the most beautiful way they know how. Like an artist, they see beauty, and want to capture it to be shared.
This is why I write.
Apart from reading and writing, my interests are mostly of an artistic and domestic bent.
Music is a big part of my life. I sing and play the piano, and I will leave it a mystery as to whether or not I'm any good. I enjoy orchestrated music (classical, baroque, movie soundtracks, etc.), as well as certain Indie Folk artists.
I like to make my own all-natural skin care products, like lip balms, sugar scrubs, and body butters. I also occasionally make candles with book-inspired scents.
My closet is full of dresses and costumes I have sewn, some of which I designed myself.
Back in 2012 I graduated with my Culinary Arts degree, which I never really used professionally. However, cooking and baking for friends and family is one of my love languages.
I have worked as a nanny for many years, and enjoy spending time with the children of my siblings, cousins, and friends. I do hope to have children of my own someday, but that is ultimately in the hands of God.
